PROVENANCE:
Hall lanterns of this design were originally made in the late 18th and early 19th century for use in British, British Colonial, and American Colonial homes. Used to illuminate as well as to decorate entrance halls, foyers, and hallways, the hall lantern offered good lighting and a warm welcome to visitors of the early colonial homes. Our hall lanterns are all hand made like the early 19th century originals. The glass domes and smoke bells are hand blown and have copper wheel engraved floral motives. The brass hardware is also hand made, including the canopy, chain, bezel band with griffin head hooks, and the ventilator cap. Generally, the brass hardware is finished in dark bronze (in some cases, a golden brass, or soft-polished brass is offered). In addition, our lanterns have a candle cup in the bottom ventilator cap and by removing the electrical wiring, the fixture is automatically converted to wax candle use. However, this conversion would not be recommended for anything other than decorative purposes.
